This is the 3rd in my series of unidentified Black Americans in history. The woman in this painting was a servant for the white family of Thomas Ustick Walter, and was used as a prop to show their status in their family photo. While information about the white folks in the photograph is available, she is still unidentified. When I saw this photo, like many, I thought she was completely striking. Honestly, she serves…Her energy radiates through the photo and instantly I knew she needed her portrait painted. I found this photo through the Instagram page @girl_gone_golden, and if you don’t already follow it, go do it now!
This painting is still wet, but will be framed free of charge with its purchase if it's collector so chooses. Each Helmstetter painting comes with a certificate of authenticity. This painting will be ready to go to it's new home when finished drying between September and November.
